On Monday the 26th of April, we went to the Pick Me Up Graphic arts fair at Somerset House. It was a really good experience as we got to see what's going on in the industry at the moment and there was a lot to take inspiration from. There was a lot of work in the fair that I liked, and took so many photos, that I can't decide which ones to put on the blog and which ones to leave. Well I guess I will just choose my very favourite ones and leave the rest, here are a few photos from the fair....
This was the very first bit of the fair, the above work is by James Joyce, a British designer who lives and works in London. Among the work of all the other designers, I liked his work the best. I really liked the use of solid shapes and bright colours, his work really stood out amongst others, and I absolutely love its simplicity. there is some more great stuff on his website

HelloVon, a studio established in 2006 by London based illustrator and artist Von. I really like the two pieces of text by the artist, the first one says OPEN, and the other one says All is Full of Love. If you see them from close, you can't figure out that it's text, but when you go further then it all starts making sense.

Rob Ryan's height chart, As Each Year Went By. I found this chart very interesting, the text on it was fun to read, the story starts from the bottom of the chart, it reads 'ONE DAY I DISCOVERED HOW THRILLING IT COULD BE TO WALK AROUND SLOWLY AND TAKE MY TIME. LOOKING AT THE THINGS IN MY TOWN AS THEY PASS BY. SAVOURING THEM, ENJOYING THEM. UNTIL UNTIL I RAN SO FAST AND TALKED AND ATE AND DRANK 7UP AND EACH DAY I GOT ONE MORE DAY OLDER AND HAIRIER AND CLEVERER AND SILLIER' I loved the way how each work by Rob Ryan had such a personal feel to it and the messages on all of them are so genuine that they could relate to anyone. I had never seen his work before but I really really adore it, I think it's simply beautiful.
