Mono Printing Workshop

Today we had a Mono printing workshop with Rachel Ortas, which was real fun. Mono printing is a very simple and easy way of producing very interesting art works in a very short time and with no hassle. Below are the photos of what we did in the workshop, which in a way is a step by step guide to mono printing.....

Rachel Ortas giving a demonstration on how to do Mono printing.

So first you cover a non-absorbent surface with block printing paint, using a roller.

These are the sheets we were given covered with the block printing paint.

Before covering sheets with the paint, we put masking tape on the edges in order to keep the edges neat........
So after taking the tape off the edges, we put a piece of paper on top of the paint coated sheet......

Then drew over it, I used my pen to draw, but Rachel did it with a pen's lid, which worked quite well too.......

So after drawing over it, I took off the sheet of paper.....

This is my first print, but as I did more and more, I found out that the print comes out best if the sheet is coated with a very thin layer of the paint, so as the paint dried and the layer got thinner, the prints started coming out better.

These are some of the prints I did in the workshop. I like the one on the ticket, I think its a good idea to try a variety of media to print on. I will be trying some more prints in colour as soon as I get the paint that I ordered today. So I will be posting more images of the mono prints shortly and hopefully they will be better than these ones.
