Logos Aimed at my Target Audience

This is the research I did on the logos aimed at 5-10 year old school going children. I could hve done it straight from internet to photohop and printed it off, but I traced them all as that was i got a good chance to observe them closely, the colours used, the typefaces, and the style. ALmost all the logos aimed at this target audience have a srt of motion in them, they use really bright colours, mostly primary and complementary colours. You can actually tell which of them are aimed at just 5-10 year old and which of them are general, for example, the Nintendo logo is quite bring and you can tell straight away that it’s not designed specifically for 5-10 year olds, the Early Learning Cantre one, may be is aimed more at mums, as usually mums do shopping for early learning of kids. I think this research has been really helpful as to understand what sort of graphics are used to attract my target audience.

Publication Aimed at my Target Audience

This is the publication research i did for my target audience. On the left are the comics i looked at and on the right are some of the bits from the comics that i like and made a sort of collage with them in my sketchbook. This research wass quite helpful as I observed what sort of colours are used for children’s publications, the typefaces used and the layout as well. All the comics were really interactive and after observing my target audience closely in various public places, I can confidently say that 5-10 year olds love interactive, bold and bright stuff.

Target Audience

This is some initial research I did on my target audience, It’s similar to what we did in the introductory workshop, but i think in more detail. These are the tracings are of the clipart which i found on the internet, some images are from the newspaper. This research helped me closely look into my target audience, as my nephew is five years old, so asked my sister in-law about what sort of stuff he does when he’s at home so i looked up for images related to those activities and traced them. I think these tracings make a nice piece of design, I actually quite like this.

Client Research

First of all I looked at what sort of organisation my client is, similar to what we did in the uni during the first week of the project.

Above is the poster sort of thing I put together, I can't say that I designed it as the photo on the top of the poster which is sort of the main thing in the poster was taken from the council's website. So I put this information together looking at what sort of stuff my local council does for my target audience, this research is related to my message as well, as all the above activities are are somehow related to healthy living. So I looked at the afterschool sports courses held at the leisure centre and funded by the local council. This research is a good start to look into my client and quite helpful as well.

I always have a lot of problems when I get a new project, the research bit I think is the easiest but the actual hard bit is to decide what to do for the final piece. Which I start thinking about from the beginning but still it never helps and I am always stuck at the end even after doing a lot of research. During the first week, when we got our project, we had two all day workshops, which I found very helpful to sort of kick start the project. The methods of research that we were shown and told about during the project induction week, I took them further and did my research in that sort of style.

So first of all, I did a bit of brainstorming to get myself started with the project. I asked myself what I get do for each bit to get myself started with the project.

Graphic Design Fundamentals

On the 10th of november, we were given our first proper sort of project. The project was Graphic Design Fundamentals i-e; Client, message and target audience. In the project, we are asked to produce and present a piece of creative graphic communication design and supporting research that meets the requirements of a client, communicates a particular message and meets the needs of target audience. We were given a choice of six clients, six messages and six target audiences, the procedure to choose our own combination, which I found really interesting and convinient was to use three dices to determine which client, message and target audience combination to work with. I really liked that procedure, as otherwise it would have taken me ages to choose from such a wide number of choices.

So the combination that I got after rolling the dices was:
Client: Local Council
Message: Become Healthier
Target Audience: 5-10 year old school going children.

I was quite happy with the combination I got as I always like to design stuff for children, and most of the projects that I had done in college were aimed at children.

Letterpress Poster

We finally printed our poster in the 3rd workshop. I was a really good experience, letterpress most certainly is a very fun, easy and fast way of producing very effective graphic work. Below are a few photos of how we went about printing our poster..... First of all we chose the colours we wanted to print out poster with, we decided to go with a gradient look. Preparing the printer to print.....First you are supposed to roll the roller over the letters, in order to cover them with paint. Then feed the paper into the machine......The way it works is so interesting..... This is the first bit printed, now we are going to print the diagonal bit.
The diagonal part of the poster ready to print..... These are the posters all printed....

Finally the photo of the final poster.
